Sorry I hadn't answered earlier Bopdude I must have missed that....

The tent in question is a Gelert Navajo 4 polycotton tent.....a variation on the Robens Fairbanks polycotton tent?
The one immediately above is a Polish Army "Lavvu"...... full cotton canvas

@lol

Very good read there Lol
Thank you! Since done a couple of Broads explorations with my better half, and using a 4m bell tent...glamping it a bit!! Much as I loved it I dearly miss the local river solo, and can't wait to go again

That is a lovely canoe @lol
You say nearly finished.......did you build the canoe yourself???
What timber is she made from?
When is the official launch?

No, I should never be left near some wood.....I'll give you a pile of shavings! Nor do I have anywhere to build one....

It is being built by Nick Hanington of Weston Canoes, Norwich; not a million miles from me in sunny Suffolk. It is Okoume marine ply and epoxy.
Nick is a lovely guy who has gone to great lengths to try and accommodate some ideas I had (and didn't work) and can happily customise as a customer may wish.

Initially we had hoped to have the boat finished by now, but with my "ideas" and Nick also runs a canoe guided tours business utilising his boats, as well as the custom building business, we are running a little late. I'm hoping to take delivery, or collect any day/week.
That was a photo he sent me showing progress so far.......

I'm off tomorrow with a mate and two plastic canoes for a little wild camp down the river :)...will use the lavvu!!

And what a absolutely beautiful trip it was, although requiring a little water based bushwacking.
Had the river all but to ourselves (on our return to base were accosted for a while by people interested in the where what how....)
Beautiful colours, weather and wild site (which had an excellent compost loo !! and a table and chairs left out!!!
A roaring fire to cook on and dry some clothes....one of us fell in, oops ! Very cold at night but the old lavvu and army arctic 90 sleeping bag kept me snug and slept til light after watching the stars and a satellite through open doors (no light pollution)..... couple of piccies of the site attached.....

Fabulous journey, fabulous company.

Just returned from 1st multi day (4) trip with canoe...not bushcrafty or wild, as with my partner and took bell tent. Continuing our exploration of the Broads, started last summer....
Found a fabulous "off grid ish" sight near HIckling Broad, and spent 4 days paddling Hickling, Horsey, and the Thurne, and various connecting waterways around these.
Stunning weather, although windy on Hickling with some substantial waves! Very little boat traffic until we hit Potter Higham on the Thurne...not the prettiest place until you get through town.. The upper reaches of the Thurne and Womack water were breathtakingly quiet and wonderful. Mind you at the top of Womack, near Ludham, you couldn't get the canoe to shore for all the moored up cruisers!! Like a massive car park in the forest, a bit of a shock!:(
Saw Swallowtail butterflies, Marsh AND Hen harriers, and Common? Crane amongst much else...………..
