Favourite Item Of Army Surplus Clothing/Footwear ?

Speaking of this, does anyone know where i can get a goretex jacket/smock very similar to my mtp jacket but in olive, brown or grey? Looking for something waterproof I can use in the bush but also wear in public but would prefer to stick to surplus due to the cost and durability. Thanks.

Spot on Neil. That looks ideal and in the right budget range too! Oh and I just realised it's my birthday next Sunday! What fortunate timing! LOL

Upon closer inspection I believe that the Austrian Army make 2 types of Goretex jackets being the one in the review & the M65. The M65 type has a Goretex liner but the one on the review uses the normal Goretex shell material & appears to be as rare as a live haggis ! The comments on the M65 model on here do appear to be very positive though ! :)

However I have also found & ordered one of these to test on the Aviemore Trip !

German Police Gore-Tex Jacket – 'All Weather' Coat – new

What swayed me was the fact that it is the same price as the one above but it is NEW as opposed to Grade 1.

Have a look at the description & comments on both jackets Paul before you commit !

Another reason for picking the German Police jacket is the fact that the badge gives me the authority to arrest Mark next time I see him for falsely impersonating a bushcrafter ! ;)

The post asked for favorite item of army surplus clothing, this isn't as practical as some of your choices but it is a personal favourite of mine

In my yoof, I made a jerkin out of a sheep skin (skinned and cured by me in the shower block of my college!) that I used under a cheap motorbike jacket...….kept me warm:)

Looked as cool as a dung heap with prospective young ladies mothers...……….:(
(Not saying that about yours tho'....like it!)

After the war they used to give these away to bin men to wear over their donkey jackets.....non of that nanny state hi-vis rubbish back then.

I got one of these Neil and it's pretty much 'as new' condition. It might be a wee while before I test it in earnest though given the current brilliant weather :)
When I get a chance I'll do a review.

The shop advised me to take a chest measurement with what I'd be wearing in winter, which I did and it came out at 41" (40 normally) and so they advised me to get the "Large (to fit 42 inch chest)(96)"
It's very roomy so I think I could probably have got way with the next size down but 'better too large than too small' eh? (No inuendo intended)
I also added a couple of t-shirts and an emergency poncho to get the cost over £50 for the free shipping :D

Cheers mate I hope it serves you well.

I also bought a couple of extras to nullify the postage as having now visited The Highlands I class myself as an honourary Scotsman ! ;)

I tried out this coat recently on a boat cruise around Loch Lomond and it performed perfectly. We had wind and driving rain almost constantly for the hour long cruise.
My hat was soaked through (I've now covered it with dubbin) but I was perfectly dry in my coat.

One thing I'd say is that the hood was not as large as I'd anticipated and doesn't come with a wire around the rim (yet)

I'll be bringing it to the summer meet so anyone who wants to can see it.
