I’ve been on holiday to Bagni di Lucca in Tuscany

We stayed in a medieval village of Vico Pancellorum ( population 100) which is high and remote . The area is rural with extensive woodland , mountain peaks and river gorges . Although I was on a family holiday the area is prime for hiking , fishing and outdoor pursuits . There are a couple of companies offering rafting, gorge walking and a high ropes activity .

There is a local English speaking fly fishing guide ( out of country when in I visited ) who offers guided trips on the local river , The Lima .

Local cuisine is hearty rural Italian , I had game taggietelli , rabbit with prunes , wild boar and deer with olives :)

All in all a fantastic trip , we will be visiting again and I will be hoping to get a few outdoor activities arranged now I have the lie of the land .

Here’s a few pics for you ....,,

Great picture and location, now there's a spot to call home, woods, fishing and sunshine :)

Indeed Al , there are around a dozen villages in the Lima valley , at the end of the war they held around 2000 population each , now each village is a rough average of 100 permanent residents , the rest holiday homes . Our friend has owned hers around 5 years . The villages are remote ( only really accessible by car , or a long walk or infrequent bus service ) . No significant internet or TV signal makes it a great place to leave the world behind and go back in time !
The valley ends at a ski resort called Abetone , so in essence a year round outdoor heaven , I’ll be going back to fish ( with guide as individual access looked a bit complicated) and to hike a couple of the peaks ( the one in the picture is directly above the village and is a three hour waymarlef hike ) .

It was idyllic :)

Any idea what fish are available ? are there shops of any kind in the villages and how did you get there :) Nosey ain't I ;)

Wild trout and grayling mostly I believe . Closest town is Bagni di Lucca ( 15 mins in car) , only a single bar/ restruant in village , no menu , you get what’s on that particular day !

Bagni has shops , supermarket , bars , bank , post office and outdoor swimming pool . Nearest big place is Lucca , an hour by car ( tourist town , has everything) and then Pisa is hour and half away as is the seaside , two hours by car to Florence ....,,,
