DAYSACK

There's no law (as far as I know) that stipulates what anyone spends £15 on...…………. you COULD???? even buy a Swedish Army daysack from MM should you wish?
Then put your bits in when you next catch a ferry????👍

It is what it is......a day bag 25ltrs............. so I doubt it will be rammed with kit......so is the weight of the bag really that critical?
Ramming kit in there would make for an uncomfortable carry.
Putting a piece of thin ply in the back would keep it square on the carriers back and may offer better comfort.

Alternatively you could cut a cheap foam roll-mat to size or use one of those foam garden kneeling pads that can be had for little money.

These options give you an instant low weight sit-mat to use when you stop for a brew whilst out on a day hike. 👍

Dimensions of the ruck sack:
54 x 30 x 20 cm
Dimensions of the folded german army sleeping mat:
38 x 27,5 x 3 cm

That means the german folding mat fits perfectly in the Swedish rucksack next to the back.

The mat weights 425g and costs used 10 €.

I was going to mention the German Army sleep mat in my post too.

The copies that are available don't look to be made as well as the original ones though !

Yes, the german army folding mat exists only used on the surplus market, usually you get them in very good conditions.
The new one is a bad quality copy.

I explained here how I store a 3 seasons hiking equipment in an original 34 litres Cordura german army mountain troop ruck sack for several weeks.

I am pretty sure it's no problem to get in the same way a summer equipment for several weeks or a 3 seasons weekend equipment in the Swedish 30 litres pack.

Getting thin foam matting is not a problem, I have used in my LK35, garage floor squares....pence?
In the daypack I probably wouldn't bother unless I was in need of a kneel mat as well?

The mat gives the rucksack a tough structure.

I never take it out of my german army mountain troop rucksack.

The ultra light trekking community usually rolls other thin foam mats like this.

You don't get it in and out so easily like the german army folding mat, but it's a good option too.

DOUBLE the price from MM......:eek::fedup::(

(399 krona = £33)

Yes, that's nearly always the same.
A lot of new Swedish products are in Germany far cheaper than in Sweden.

Water will enter through the zippers and in the end they will break and you will get a problem, if that doesn't happen in town.

That's a city bag.

Your's I don't know.

But that happens to all, that look like yours.
Sooner or later depending on the quality.

Well for £10 I’m not that fussed. It’s just a day bag for when I go camping on site overnight. Probably used in dry weather. I’ll upgrade at some point for wetter weather. Thanks though

Of course you can buy for your money what you like.

But if you ask us, before you buy something, what we think about, we could help you to avoid wasting money.

90% of the stuff on the market you can't use for trekking tours, and only 10% will last longer than 5 years. 3% longer than 10 years.

We know, what lasts a lifetime.

And the prices are very similar.

I understand what you’re saying and appreciate the help. I’m just starting out and on a budget. That pack was reduced for £45 to £10 so thought it was a steal. I did a little research and guy travelled Thailand with that alone for a week or two, can’t remember which so thought it would be good for what I’m using it for atm. So what would you have recommend for the price?

Used military stuff.

What you get cheap usually was made for the third World War and not for a week in Thailand.

That has a good chance to survive another 30 years of civil use.

@lovelife82

For £10.00 that is a nice day bag to start off with ;)

Most packs even top end and military will suffer water ingress.......so I wouldn't get too concerned with that.
Preparation and preparedness are the key ......think outside of the box sometimes.
If you know the pack/bag will let water in.....just wrap the kit inside a bin liner or preferably a cheap dry bag.........roblem solved.
The bag may not stand up to prolonged hard use......but starting out as you are on a budget...... the odd trip here and there.......the bag should serve you well.

Like the color and hope, you enjoy using it.
