War on plastic. Ive just watched the first episode of Hugh Ferny Werny's program about plastic waste

All true but you will never get a western politician suggesting population control, it's political suicide. We know in general that we need to control our population but very few people think it should apply to them specifically.

Yup, we're a selfish bunch. Apart from that nice Emma Thompson woman, it was offay good of her to fly across to take part in that extinction rally, she's an all round good egg it seems.

Hope the link works.

Maybe we do need celebs to tell us what to do if the governments won't make the difficult decisions for us. I'm curious what our favourite celebs have to say on a range of issues. Does anyone remember the film Idiocracy ????

With regards to celebs I'm in two minds; I’ve no belief that someone who’s good at playing make believe, can carry a tune in the shower or is a fast runner has an opinion that is any more worthy than anyone else’s, however in the modern world, and probably the ancient one too, then people tend to believe their hero’s and follow their example so if you want a message spread then celebrity is the ideal mechanism to do it.

Bam, not only do I remember the film idiocracy, I'm pretty sure that film was just a taste of the not too distant future..

Charisma or however you want to define it plays a part in human interactions, it's the way we're wired up. Like you though, I have no wish to hear a celebs view on pretty much anything outside their field. No matter how passionate is is to them.

I hear ya bro, maybe just getting old but I despair at the whole desperate to be a 'celeb' thing. Can't think of anything worse, I'm fantastically happy being a 'no mark'. :)

l watched the programme and what struck me most was the way things we thought we were recycling are ending up in heaps in foreign parts. l'm as guilty as the next person for using too much plastic but it's so difficult to avoid it these days.

It's true, single use plastic is almost unavoidable...it's also true I'm an extreme case, I question everything I buy and do my best to avoid plastics but they're everywhere, often hidden in products that we buy not realising their plastic content.....I mean to say, tea bags? Who was aware that they reinforce paper tea bags with plastics? These days I buy loose tea and own a stainless tea strainer...I even use bamboo tooth brushes (I like them much better than plastic ones and they're really cheap)
Even I can't avoid plastic packaging....but I do use a lot less than the average person.

There's not a lot we can do about it unfortunately, so much stuff comes in plastic and you can't reuse all of it. It's going to take legislation to force changes through and that's just to reduce rather than stop it.
I don't like how we're being made to feel bad about this, happy to be educated and one of the reasons I haven't watched the programme is I doubt I'd learn anything (another is not being a fan Shug) but if others do then great.

True that Hugh Ferny Werny is a bit like marmite, love it or hate it but no-one could object to the lovely Anita Rani.
