Hi all, I'm looking at putting together a simple leathercraft kit as I have a few projects that need to get ticked off the list, new sheath for my hatchet etc.
Any pointers to what I'll need and some 'budget' options to get me started?

Cheers all :)

Its all over the net guys.....you tube etc

E-bay is worth a look for starter kits......you can also pick up some nice off cuts for smaller projects like axe masks and small sheaths.......key rings etc.

Try to buy "Veg Tan Leather".........2/3mm will be fine for smaller projects.

Its worth investing in a good strong skill knife.....the cheap ones just don't cut it......(see what I did there :rofl:)
You can also find some good used tools on there to get you going.

Not been in my workshop for a good while now......tend to spend more time in there in the Winter months.

Look forward to seeing some of your projects soon

One of the episodes of “the salvager” featured the guy making a quilted leather headboard; he sourced all his leather from a local charity shop buying up all their damaged handbags, odd shoes and boots which he then cut into usable pieces.

Yes I saw most of the episodes of the salvager including his French series, a very clever man

Stanley knife, stitch marking wheel, stitch groover, egde beveler, bone burnisher, awl, saddlers needles, glovers needles, hole punch, sinew thread, rivets and setting tool, leather dye and a good wax sealer.
You will need all of that.

2mm veg tan for lighter stuff 3-4 for heavier duty like axe masks, knife sheaths belts etc. Get some brass d rings to make belt loops and the like. Warning! Its addictive once you start.
