ive been living in this present location for 7 years and never had the time to set up my HF radio or antenna ...

Dusted of my radio ..its an iC0M iC7000 ....

after much faffing around ive found my old PSU has died in storage :(... so ill be on the lookout for a new one

my ATU is now missing a knob so i,ll be onto MFJ to see if i can get a replacement

ive been given 20 x 21ft scaffold tubes so im going to build a mast or two :whistle: in the back garden and down the side of my house for my antenna of choice

i like to use a Carolina windom 80 special  ...had contacts all over the world from my last QTH ...this one should be even better as im a few 100ft higher :whistle:

Hope you get it all up and running soon Mattchew

20 x20ft scaffold poles :alert::alert::alert:..........I hope you are going to get KNEEF :sneaky: to put a light on top of that lot :rofl::rofl:

Do you think you will be able to get back in touch with your old contacts?

Pictures and progress reports, please ;)

got to transport the pole,s home first mate ...will stick them on the roof of the landy :whistle::whistle::whistle:

the PSU will need to wait as the one im after is near on £100 ...so im going to borrow a big battery from work  (ive got a trickle charger to keep it topped up when im not using it )

i think so far as old contacts im sure their are a few of the old crew still on but it will all depend on the propagation (sun spots) a mate of mine who is on at the moment said the conditions are poor at best at the mo so im in no rush

main plan is to have it set up so it keeps me busy over the winter months when the weather is not good for going out side

Had two right dodgy vagrants knocking at my door today................it was great to see you both :D:thumbsup: @Matt and @WildWood1965

Who left the :poo: stain in my toilet bowl ?????:thumbsdown::rofl:

It was me mate. That's what you get when you swap out the luxury quilted 4-ply loo roll for the B&M Bargains 1-ply before your guests arrive ! :sneaky:

That'll learn you ! :rofl::rofl:;)

so after much faffing around ive finally got the scaff pole,s and assorted fitting,s to my QTH ... after looking at the size of the things and the weight ive had to have a little rethink ...

the new plan is to have 1 scaff pole (steel) and then add a 21ft flag pole (ally) on top to try and make the 10 mtr vertical antenna that im after .... ive sorted out the ground plain array with wires cut to 1/4 wave length of each of the frequencies i wish to transmit on .... now the waiting game starts again

Whilst running the exercise control for an army exercise we were once joined by some radio hams, based out of a disco. They had a really cool little mast mount made from dexion racking that clamped to the rear wheel without the faff of pegging our masts etc.

our signallers were really impressed and were taking photos and measurements.

ive got one you can drive on and slip the mast into a sleeve .... ideal for when out mobile

I think that’s what this was, a decion rectangle at the base with the mast then strapped/clamped to the wheel with minimal guy lines needed.

it was signals sh&t so I took an interest but not an unhealthy amount!

mostly I was asking the signallers why we couldn’t have something that simple rather than the 5.4 m mast that was like a krypton factor task to set up.

Military comms isn't the black art it used to be, there's a lot of clever stuff now that does a lot of the thinking for you.

New antenna turned up this week .... ive been gathering the parts needed for the 2 masts (to hold up the antenna )

will be having a go at putting them up today  ... 35ft tall need to be 20 mtrs apart so i can hang the antenna horizontal ...

just waiting on the coax to turn up as had to order a 50 meter drum ...

not sure how the neighbors are going to react
