So, I can't fault my Haix high liability boots in general for year round use and during these days of lockdown I've been wearing them in preference to trainers when taking our daily walks as they're much more comfortable. However, they are much warmer too.

Do you folks have any recommendations for wide-fit summer boots?

My first thoughts are these:

I've had a look at some of those Rob but couldn't see any mention of wide fitting. I've got rather large bunions on my big toes. Any opinions on this?

When you find the right boot and width fitting Paul....you could try steaming and stretching the boots around the Bunion contact points......try and source boots with no aggravating seams around the bunion area.

When I was issued new DMS boots I used to soak them in a bath for 24hrs....then wear them wet until they stretched and formed around the feet when drying.
These were leather boots mind you.

Mine are an eight ( my normal size ) I find them both broad and spacious, if anything I could have gone half a size smaller , but with a decent sock they are fine , they are high legged too which I don’t mind but doesn’t suit everyone .

Great sole , great stability , breathable but definitely not water resistant as you might expect .

I've had the Lowa elite light weight high top military boots, very breathable and comfortable in the dry but for the money they didn't last well at all, the soles came away from the upper at the toe before they had much wear.........but I have wide feet ( size 12) and found them very comfortable while they lasted.

Hi Paul.

Been looking around and found these for not a bad price.......getting away from the military surplus.

We all know that the best way is to go and try boots on......not always possible though.
Some are lucky and can find a multitude of boots that will fit comfortably.
With your Bunion problems a leather boot maybe the way to go.....more chance of moulding/steaming the boot for a more comfortable fit.
Maybe go 1/2 or one size bigger than your norm.

A good article here with tips on breaking in new boots.

Might be worth a call or Email to any potential supplier to ask if they will refund if the boots are not suitable.

Hope it helps.

Good luck with your search.

Edit......just noticed....... this seller has a no quibble returns policy

I’d not buy another pair of Karrimor boots as the quality has plummeted since sports direct got involved.

You say that 38 and its possibly true but I've had my karrimors for over 4 years and the are still as good as the day when I first pulled them on

I did not realise there were issues with Sports Directs involvement 38.......Karrimoor used to be a reasonable build and quality...... for the price point.

I looked at the reviews on the boots before posting..........as with most things differing opinions and experiences from users.....but overall quite positive.

They seemed like a fair choice given Pauls problematic feet.......maybe a re think in order.

I took a punt on a 'new' Karrimor' rucksack a couple years back and for day to day usage its fine, its a comfy bag for a decent price. Its not a heavy duty bag though, the zips are quite flimsy and when its heavily loaded you worry about the stitching but for the 28 quid or whatever I paid for it, I don't feel ripped off. Put it next to my 'old' Karrimor bag and you can feel the difference in quality though.

You get what you pay for maybe ?

Just out of interest.............
In the mid 90's some of the staff, Directors? of Karrimor set up a separate organisation, Karrimor SF. to carry on the old good quality manufacturing of equipment. Sports Direct eventually took over the bulk of the old Karrimor concern but Karrimor SF continues as a supplier of good quality Bergans/ Patrol Packs etc:. Unfortunately they don't make boots anymore but I have used a Karrimor SF Bergan and it was the bizz.

Karrimor (SportsDirect) = Far East manufacture
Karrimor SF = Made in UK.

Sports direct effectively bought the “brand” and then decided where they wanted it to sit.

I had a pair of Karrimor boots that fell apart after about a months actual use although I had owned them unused for longer. Their customer service would have struggled to be less interested.

You may get lucky but the comparative quality compared to other outdoor brands has now fallen whereas previously Karrimor was a watchword for quality in its independent days. Most serious outdoor users would go to other brands.

I find the Decathlon range in France pretty good, not sure if you get them in the UK mind had mine a few years take a good beating no damage yet , do get a bit warm mind very good quality for the price paid.

Hello Peeps.

Hope all are well.

Boots are a constant issue for me. My country is so rocky and craggy and I do so much hiking and climbing, that it tends to shred boots in weeks rather than months. Best I’ve yet found are these. They called ’Merrell’. Not sure if available in UK.

Last pair of these lasted me about a year, but that was with exceptionally hard use. My wife now wears an identical boot, (ladies line). They are fine in warmer weather -We wear them!
