Just returned from a lovely two day paddle on the Stour with my partner, camping at Wiston/Wissington on a deserted and absolutely beautiful riverside pitch.

Buzzards, Kites, was it a sparrowhawk that dashed by?, warblers (which?), a jack pike lying up a ditch, swans with cygnets on their backs, but best of all, in broad daylight....an otter in front of the canoe :)

Hi Lol.

What an idyllic setting to spend a couple of days paddling and camping:thumbsup:
So much to see down the river if your quiet and saunter gently along.
Looks like the weather was kind going by the lovely pictures you took.

Nice post....thanks for sharing:thumbsup:

No, thank you. Below is an extract from a pm I've just sent JoeCole.........

If any on here are into canoeing, don't underestimate the solitude and beauty this little river affords..........

Gear used:
Blacks Kara cotton canvas tent (circa 1977 but 1st use!) similar to BCT patrol....
Czech blanket type sleeping bag
British Army 90 arctic bag
1978 Blacks Highland bag
Swedish army trangia cooker
Old Town Charles River canoe

why three bags?.......wanted to try out stuff......... all worked really well.....

A couple of nights before this lil' trip I spent a night in the little "lavvu"....that was brilliant, but the night was very cold and I took the Czech bag with only one blanket (you can button in a second one....) I slept on a sim inserted into a polish bedroll thing.(Not the monster that has been discussed elsewhere on the forum, that's another Czech jobbie...)
Anyway, getting off track..... AN OTTER!! Yahay!
