Whatever has been stealing our eggs has also stolen our china eggs!!! There is no sign in this video of anything entering the chook house, only animals in & outside of the chook yard, plus something which has triggered the camera on two occasions which I have not been able to identify!
Keith.

looks like a pair of them whatever they are, lucky they only took the eggs! a badger or a fox would have killed all the chickens as well!!

Mountain Brushtail Possum with a young one on her back. I did not see them enter the chook house though, just after scraps in the yard.
Keith.

yes, possum was my first thought when I saw the shape of them not that I know much about Australian wild life!

They grow quite large, skins are good, I have never eaten one. I would imagine they would be quite edible though. I guess they are our equivalent to your squirrel only larger. The ringtail possum is only a little larger than a squirrel. We have both types here.

Good night vision video Keith, have you tried focusing your attention directly on the nest boxes while the hens are roosting?

Yes I have, that was the first place I tried, but it was too close for the camera.

Crafty little critters Keith. A think a trap is in order. As you said you get good pelts and you haven't eaten one so it mite be time to have a go

These Brush Tail Mountain Possums were introduced to New Zealand many years ago, & are now apparently classed as pests. Some people are making a living out of hunting & trapping them, & a lot of the "coonskin caps" for sale are actually made from possum skins.

We think it is the Currawongs or a Currawong stealing the eggs, one of my sons found a Currawong eating an egg this morning by the garden gate!
Keith.

When it happens to us it's usually a pair of crows. If you need catch them a simple conical net trap, built like a teepee with an open ring at the top that they can perch on then drop down into the cone to take the bait. They then don't have enough space to take off. The more you catch the faster they will flock to the trap(similar to a Larson trap but more commonly used by bird ringers)

I don't want to catch them. I like to have them around.

We're the same Keith, we leave the crows and the rooks alone, we have as many eggs as we can eat or give away.
