I'd quite like to shoot in failing light and not complete dark and in need of nv. Any pointers on decent equipment to use that doesn't cost too much.ta .

IMO 50mm bell is the ideal size as don't gain much being any bigger but if you still want more go for a 30mm tube ;)

Hey up,

It depends on the type of shooting you're wanting to do, rabbiting or very close range ratting. If it's for rabbiting I would recommend the Nikko Stirling's I used the "Nghteater Eurohunter" 3-12 x 56 IR (centre cross illumnination) 30mm tube before I switched to NV. I paid £60.00 for mine but sold it when I couldn't focus down low enough for shed work. I think you'll find they're not in production now but 2nd hand ones pop up on the forums now and then. There are others in the Nikko Stirling range which are available.

I used it mainly for ratting but not shed work (below 8-10 metres) and could see through it even in light where I couldn't see the rat clearly with the naked eye. It's one of the best scopes I've ever used while out lamping as well for rabbits.

Whatever you choose I would go for one with a fairly big objective lens as Gunger has already said.

Hope this helps
Regards

Something with a 50mm objective lens, a 30mm tube and low magnification will actually give you much better light gathering than you could achieve with the naked eye. No need to spend a fortune.

How many pages back did you have to go to find this one? Was 2009 fgs. 🤦‍♂️🤣

I look at what guests and search engines are watching, it’s a good way of dredging up some interesting threads
Manny goes a strange shade of puce if anyone is guilty of zombie posting, I dredged one up one day and am still
reminded of it now and then.

An adjustable illuminated ret is a useful thing when shooting in low light conditions without NV.
Takes away the strain of trying to find your black crosshairs / aim point......especially shooting into hedgerows.

Been using a Hawke Nighteye Didgi on the Scultra for years.......good in the woods too......recommend.

Thing with old posts is the members have moved on, most recent visit by any of the original posters is 2014...so they probably won't be popping up to say thank you.
Leave it be, let it R I P where it was.
I do t mind a couple of years but now we aren't adding information to the op we are just talking about how old it is..🤷🏻‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Old post yes :)..........original poster more than likely long gone......agreed.

But a subject for further discussion?.....no matter how old it is 🤔

Anyway.....I found it useful as I may have a few scopes coming for sale soon :p.....and one in particular is perfect and relative to the OP:thumbsup:

If you have any valid objection to me resurrecting old threads you can always PM me and we can discuss it in private. Please remember that two forums have recently been united and some of this material is new to me.
