You say side shoots Mark, the ones I'm referring to are the little shoots growing between the main stem and the branches coming off it

You can but be careful how you do it,I use my opinel to trim off any that have got to big

Take them out at any time, we call them elbows. My wife lets them grow a bit then picks them out and sometimes puts them in water and they root themselves to make another plant.

Strawberries have just finished here and Autumn raspberries will be ready later. Two apple trees (Worcester Pearmain) are heavy with fruit and the pea row is producing well.

Well my corn is almost in pollination (if that’s the right term for this lol) but !! No bloody cobs to pollinate Iv done something wrong lol

That’s a new one on me, the weird thing is that it looks like a really healthy plant…do you remember what variety you planted? Corn and maise are also really greedy feeders, maybe there wasn’t enough nutrients in the soil? Beyond that I have no idea why they wouldn’t create any ears.

I’m sure it’s sweat corn Mike , tho the little card that reminds me what they are is long gone lol …. There are signs of the cob growing but not what they should be
