An old stainless dog bowl with a grill will do just as well for a hobo stove if you like DIY and want to save a few quid

Most of the above with the exception of a fire pit, just never been in that scenario, meths is ok and I was a BIG fan of it, I say was as since buying the very small but great BRS-3000 I think I may be a gas convert, got a Ti multi fuel stove in my sights for the end of the month though.

Forgot to add that my favourite stove is my alp kit brukit which is there version of a jetboil but a bit bigger.

what did you use on your Norway trip @Bopdude

Much like Joe, I use meths for the first cuppa and then gas for cooking. I have a firepit at the lake to sit round, keep warm, keep a kettle going and chat by.

Gas usually when back packing and if it's a long trip I usually carry a little meths stove as back up.

This is the Meths stove, it's Gucci kit, comes in a little bag with it's own tripod and it really works well.

Is this what they call a Fire Box? If it is, this one is a folding version and is handy for a contained natural fire.

Camping up on the Northumberland Moors where I knew wood fuel is sparse and gas supplies about 3 days camel ride away, I use this Wood Gas stove and burn wood based cat litter.

But camped in the wood, it's my favourite, a proper fire with the big kettle that I cache where I usually camp...More tea Vicar?....:D

It was Sweden @Matt and a mix of a Trangia ( meths ) a Vargo Ti Hexagon wooddburner, my Titanium woodburning tent stove and when we were on the camp site mainly their facilities.

The meths was a bit tricky at first but once I kept it warm it was easier, managed to cook a big pot of stew on the trangia at -23, took a few refills though lol

I almost forgot, Frontier Stove that I have yet to use, truth be know I bought it on a whim, not sure if it'll ever get used

Attention! Attention!

The German ultra light trekking community came to the result, that the quality of the BRS 3000 T is changing!

So the stove of @Bobdude may work very well, but the next who buyes it could get real problems.

The German ultra light trekking community came to the result, that the very similar stove of 45g is made in a far higher Quality!

It is sold under several different names, for example:

Fire-Maple FMS-300 T
Alpkit Kraku
Robens Fire Midge
EOE Lithium
LACD Ultralight titan

It is the same stove, sold under different names.

Weight is 45g

Do not use this stove with gas bottles of Optimus!
Optimus is producing a different ventile form. You would destroy your stove with that!

WP_20180418_19_05_12_Pro.jpg

The new gas bottles from Optimus (which are filled with propane and butane) are made at exactly this point a bit different than all the other gas bottles on the market.

You can see it only if you compare it directly with another bottle. The difference is around 0,5mm, so it is nearly invisible.

But for the funktion of this ultra light gas stove this 0,5mm are important.

You do not get the stove correctly on the bottle.
If you screw it to strong on it, you risk to pull out the screw of the stove.
That would destroy the stove!

With other stoves, which are sitting down on the silver coloured ring, you usually don't get this problem.

That's why the wrong constructed Optimus bottles are able to survive on the market.
