2018-01-12 Aborted January Woodland Overnight Camp

Apologies for the abrupt end to the video. My mobile battery also died to add to the challenges of the day!

I badly misjudged the time I'd need to prepare for my overnight trip today.

This meant that I got to the site I'd chosen with only 45 minutes until sunset.

Once there, I surveyed the area and realised there were a LOT of dead standing trees and fallen trees hung up on others. A cold, stiff breeze was also coming across the fields. I couldn't find a suitable tarp/hammock spot which was not at risk of dead trees falling on me so I decided to return to an area I had been to before.

So, another 20 mins walking with the 20kg pack, a bag of clothes and a camping chair got me to my old camp site. This is further down into the glen and more sheltered from the wind but also MUCH more damp.

I sat down to rest my aching back, had some water and nuts then scouted around for firewood.
15 minutes later with no firewood to speak of, no tarp or hammock set up, a very sore back and completely scunnered, I put my pack back on and hiked back up through the woods and fields back to the car.

A lesson well learned I think. I need to firstly scout for a better location and I need to get to site at least 2 hours before sunset.

Oh, and on the walk in I lost the microphone from my action camera so the video (for what it's worth) was done on my phone.

I returned the next day and found my mic. :)
