Hi guys,

I wish to ask a rather generic question today: How did you start your own homesteading and what are your tips for realizing a homestead?

I am asking because I am trying to achieve that goal since years already, owning my own piece of land with a little house/cabin. But so far the money always has been the issue and I am currently building a little capital (not much so far).

I wonder if some of you can and want to share their experiences. I am eager to devour any input that might be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Land is relatively expensive in the UK, buying up parcels of land is quite often beyond the means of the ordinary working Brit.
I only have a small amount of land that actually belongs to me (7.5 acres) but I am surrounded by land on which I have permission to shoot as long as I look after other minor pest control issues like rats, moles and brown mink. Originally my home was part of a 1200 acre fishing/shooting estate which was broken up in the 1960's so it's ideally suited to me being able to get out and about with a gun.

Eastern Germany, eastern Europe, parts of France too, but I don't know if cheap land in France could mean, that they have a problem there with the water.

In my opinion it is far easier to learn a language than to earn the money to buy land in an expensive area.

For me it wasn't so difficult to learn Brandenburgisch and Mecklenburgisch.

Yeah the situation here in NL is horrible, too. 16 million people on a piece of land smaller than the province of Bavaria is just too much, so I am looking elsewhere to be honest.

Frankly spoken I have my reservations when it comes to Eastern European countries - not because I do not like the people, I am a quarter of a Czech myself haha. But because of infrastructure and such.

Italy would be an option too, I have good ties to folks in the North there. The issue though remains the corruption and the fact that organized crime is currently migrating up North.

What are the approximate prices in the UK? Just so I get a picture.
