Been having big trouble with arthritis this last three weeks, particularly in my right arm and shoulder, so I haven't done much shooting. However, today I had a plink with the easiest of my rifles to cock, the FWS 300S. I've always been fascinated by diopter sights and the way that although you are peering through a pinhole the POA seems to be magnified. The range was 20 yards to make it more interesting and because I'm a bit of a crap shot the groups are not very good, but it shows that someone of Spocks or CH ability could achieve much better.
It's a pity that more use isn't make of open sights, many guns are still sold with them fitted.

Feel free to send it to me, and I'll put it through its paces! :D

In the Olympics, they shoot those things at 10 metres, although apparently the rules state that you must dress up as a complete plonker to take part...

So, you're not doing too badly at 20 yards... Try it at 10 metres and see if you coulda been a contender... ;)

You're welcome to come over and try it whenever you like. :)

That does look a little over-dressed when you could poke the target with a long stick if you had a mind to.

We should have a sticky thread for shooting with open sights at 10 yards or meters, for comparison and a bit of competition.:)

Brilliant! I've even thought of a name for it -- the Myopia Challenge!

I'm beginning to see why they need all that gear! Placing that o within a O leaves a large margin of error for my old eyes.

Aye, but thars but a lad!

Aye, happen, but since I shoot four-inch target cards, anything beyond 15 yards means that with standard iron sights, all I can see is a distant blob, even with me specs on! :(

Haven't tried diopter sights. The open sights on my 85 are pretty good, with interchangeable front posts blah, but even so, if you're shooting at a 15mm bullseye or killzone out to 35-45 yards, they just don't offer the precision I need.

I know, I know, young people today and all their new-fangled technology...

You really should look into diopter sights, they have very little in common with standard iron sights and I'm sure you would find them interesting, even if you never use them. Precision is what they are all about and folk pay £600 and more for a good rear sight.

The FWB300 doesn't belong to me, it's on permanent loan to me from my mate, a proper shooter with a shed load of trophies. I'm thinking of buying a set of diopters for my HW30.

Strewth. You could buy a new air rifle for that...

Exactly what I was thinking CH, but if that's what floats Don's boat, then who are we to challenge that.;)

I hope your taking the FWB 300S to Atherton range, if you can make it on the 16th Sept Don.:)

You can get a good set of dioptre sights for £30/40, that was CD being silly. I would like to take my FWB 300 to Atherton to see how you get on with it, but I still haven't managed to get there to weigh up the lie of the land. I used to take my guns and stuff to the Tawd Vale club in my wife's old shopping trolley and just about managed dragging that around, but I'd never get that up stairs. Is there any chance of you coming round to my place if the Atherton lift isn't working by then? Old age really is a PITA. :(

Don I have been fancying one of these and it would be ideal with your FWB 300 and dioptre sight -http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351290540993?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I've got something similar with a line of ducks and a disc which resets the ducks when hit. They are good fun, in fact such good fun that I bought spinners and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nitehawk-Re...=1441227526&sr=8-1&keywords=air+rifle+targets
When my nephew and his son come round it's like a funfair out there. You must let me know if you ever head up this way. :)
