So I now have the SMK TH78D .22 which I have already fallen for big time, the sound of that bolt is fantastic and the thumb hole stock lovely to use.

However after an hour playing about, two things are obvious for myself using it

1) I will never be able to use the Co2 tube cap as it stands without either using gas pliers/rag which I don't much fancy ......... Or I need a replacement cap which has holes drilled in the sides so that I can use a small rod or Allen Key ... That would enable me to close the cap down and pierce the Co2 bulbs. Anyone use a modified cap? Know where it is best to buy one? If I have confused anyone see the pic below.

As a matter of interest regarding the Co2 bulbs, can I use the one Co2 bulb at a time? ..... I've seen this on a video on You Tube but who knows which one! ..... Where does one put the full one, does it go in first or second? Indeed does that make any difference whether it is first or second and does it work with the one bulb? I'd assume it simply gives less shots as the pressure will not differ.

2) My ability to load single pellets is akin to a very drunk man trying to please his wife ... To load a pellet for myself with my dodgy paws, is indeed much like trying to force a marshmallow into a collecting tin 👍 :poo: ... I drop the pellets, get them the wrong way around and even managed to jam one upright in the breech :evilstare: ... So I need a manual feed magazine; obviously.

On Ebay there are numerable offerings all the same it appears, with differing prices ... about £12 is the average .... Now I am assuming that pic A below is for some other rifle and that pic B is what I require... Does anyone have one? Does it come with a plate so you can remove the mag to load it? With these B mags, does one remove the magazine to fill it or is it done in situ? Are they even worth £12? Or are they just cheap and nasty tat?

Then we have pic C, the no doubt beautifully made Rowan Engineering example weighing in at a frankly shocking c.£63, considering it is for a £169 rifle ..... This one can seemingly be removed as it has the plate affair and one can buy further mags without the plate at a mere £45'ish .... Has anyone got one of these? Does it work amazingly well .... Is it really 5x's better than the £12 EBay junk?

Any and all help gratefully received! Thank you in advance.

The EBay jobbies look 3D printed. I have a couple of 3D print mags for my CP1-M CO2 pistol, and they work fine. The fit was a little too tight at first, but the judicious use of a nail file on the 3D print material sorted that easily. They should work -- check for any reviews -- and you should be able to superglue a tab to remove the mag if required.

If you put one empty and one full bulb into the gas cylinder, it will work just as well, and deliver half the number of shots. Doesn't matter which goes where, since they're both pierced at their respective ends of the cylinder.

As for the end cap, is it aluminium and solid? If it is, I'd drill it myself to accept an Allen key. If not, you can buy levers that fit around the focus ring of a telescopic sight that might work -- or a small Boa rubber spanner might do the trick.

Hi CH and thank you for the reply.

Aha .... I actually have a rubber boa thingy, never though of that! I've no idea what the cap is made of, allow I suspect, right now it is CO2 filled from Pellpax .... But I think you can buy a drilled one.

It looks like the £12 Ebay jobby is worth a whizz then, £63 seems a tad expensive for what it is.... Whilst I am not tight with money, not even careful, that seems excessive even for me.

Cheers :)

I've seen this guy on YouTube , thought the dear boy was English, speaks all proper like... innit. I shall have a ganders as they say in da smoke... Actually now in London I doubt I'd understand a word apart from innit and 'butters' ... Been away tooo long .... Thank fully.

Thank you for the link Squire, you's a top man. :tom-cool:

Update .... This week on Ironside IV

So I have ordered mag item B and await it's arrival ..... By some horrible means I managed to maybe 90% zero the scope ...... By using Xmas elephant, a camping table and judicious help from my good lady .....

IMG_3004.JPG

Then we learnt that the drop off of Co2 is like a cliff, unlike both my pistols ... Now because I have been trying to zero the scope by mucking about and don't trust anything is right, I assume the scope is not right or has moved itself so start twiddling knobs ... Which results in this ...... Where the pellets hit the steel front end of the Walther 'Duck box' target

As I suspected I had to use gas pliers & a rag to undo the CO2 tube cap initially ...... Some gent elsewhere has said he'll customise a cap with a nut for me, but I think that Rowan also do a cap with a gas release on it.... We shall see.

Today's big lesson: think before twiddling your knobs.

Someone actually gave you that as a present? Do they hate you, or something? View attachment 22422
She a bit of a looker?

One has to be realistic... The wife's father was decent sort of cove. Plus say that my own wife's excellent genes and looks are of course partly via her mother, as is her intelligence ...... Her mother is wearing remarkably well for 80 yrs old and indeed looks more like 65 yr old ... She is however in our belief actually certifiable (my wife's view being somewhat professional)..... The MIL likes to bother God in a pretty major way; always has by all accounts ..... Scary IMO and that of the wife, plain scary ...

Surely if there was ever a personification of the religious construct: Evil. Then it would indeed best be tangibly defined by 'Organised religion"

Interestingly one would imagine that 'the event' was all bad but that has not been our experience. Yes it has bad angles obviously, but there are good.... One of these fillips being that I have no need to find an excuse to not visit family nor have them in our home. Which is nice :)

Update to the magazine conundrum. My newest internet visit to Screwup City :D

So I strike again! ... I'm so busy going out and want to order the mag I order one fast off Ebay, seems cheaper, 9.90 + postage, that'll do .... Not sure why those ones have the legs, looks odd... Forget it .... I'll go legless innit!

Idiot... Blooming idiot :crying: ...... As a slight aside we were talking to a lady today in the hospital who by coincidence is one of the high ups in social care in Swansea City Council ... She said her father had died of Sepsis and has seen a great deal of Sepsis ... So I said I'd had it in June 2018: it's no fun ... The lady enquired if it had left me feeling confused as that seems almost uniform ... So truthfully I said yes, it just totally messes you up... messed me up anyway ..... Body and mind in every possible way I've found ... Indeed after the year I am only just starting to feel really any better ... Sepsis .... that is my excuse!!

Regardless, I'm an idiot ..... why? Well, first off the mag doesn't arrive from the EBay geezer .... Messaged him, "Where is it Mr F'wit?" ..... to be fair I had a delivery date on EBay of 20-21th May ... This is now 25th ... "I'm on holiday and left a note" ... I search the advert and yes, right at the very bottom there is it ... So I receive the damned thing yesterday, 29th May.

Now here's the real idiot part .... However now I know the bleeping obvious or maybe not so obvious .....Either way I shall pass on this nugget ...... What I bought, the legless version, is a
SPARE magazine ...... The one with the legs is a FULL MAGAZINE KIT about £1 more .... But the pictures they all have on EBay are IMO unhelpful beyond belief .... because that is not how it fits ... Rather it fits like the 3rd picture, over the Co2 barrel barrel end of the breech. Tightened in place it appears by the grub screw. Simple when you know.

Now to be fair to me if you look at the "Super dooper 10 shot self indexing magazine thingy kit for £120", that mag looks similar to the legless one .... which is why in my mixed up mind, I bought it.

Next? Oh flans ..... It's too tall for my scope mounts which are supplied with the BSA scope and are 1/2 inch tall ... So now I have had to order some 1 inch rise mounts off Amazon £9.99 ... Amazon who are superb IMO, ordered @ 16.59 ... To be delivered in the morning... Personally I cannot fault Amazon Prime.

So now I have to buy a legged version of the magazine and then with the new mounts.... I might, might just be getting somewhere!

As a final aside .... It is worrying how all the drugs and sepsis mess with my mind.... At 12yr old I could rebuild my Moto X engine.... At 15yr old I could strip an A series BMC engine and box (aka Mini unit) , then throw the thing back together 100% correctly .. Now? Now I cannot work out a god damned magazine .. Blah de Blah Blah :evileye:
