Pontefract Air Rifle Club

Pontefract Air Rifle Club

The club was founded in the mid-1980s. It was originally located at the Territorial Army Barracks in Pontefract.

At its beginning, Pontefract Air Rifle Club was organised and run as part of a local police initiative to instruct young people in the care and use of air guns.

We now reside in Frog Hall Quarry at Brotherton and currently have a thriving membership, thanks in no small part to our friendly, family atmosphere.

We're a friendly club, and cater for beginners and experts(?) alike. Whatever your level of ability, or type of gun, you will be made welcome.

BASC
PARC has very close ties with the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) and we host various "Young Shot" events throughout the year. In 2004 we were asked to marshall the Air Gun section of the prestigious McNab Trophy Final.

This year sees the return of the Marksmanship Badge for the Scouts - and we're proud to announce that PARC have been asked to host and provide instruction for a group of up-and-coming young sharpshooters.

Our club has probably the best facilities of its type in the Northern area, including:

  • an all-weather undercover plinking and zeroing range;
  • a permanent 30 target FT course;
  • a permanent 30 target HFT course;
  • catering facilities;
  • a brand new double toilet block with one half fully equipped for disabled people;
  • all-weather car park with dedicated disabled spaces near the plinking range; and
  • open 365 days a year to members.

Only non-firearms are allowed. This means rifles must be under 12fpe and pistols under 6fpe. If you're not sure what this means, get in touch with us and we can explain.

Our club has strong links with the BASC and we can arrange reduced rate membership. We also work closely in partnership with BASC to promote the sport, attending several game fairs and young shot days throughout the year.

If you would like help or advice with your shooting, we have a number of BFTA qualified airgun instructors and GBTSF licensed coaches who will be more than willing to give you the benefit of their experience and knowledge.

In addition, we have a very good relationship with one of the best gun shops in our region. Swillington Shooting and Stable Supplies offer a friendly and supportive service to customers - especially from our club! Check out their new website to see the latest range of new and used rifles in stock.
