Webley & Scott Gunmakers

Webley & Scott Gunmakers

Founded in 1790, Webley & Scott is one of the oldest names in the gun trade.

The Company was a massive supplier to both the trade and the public of shotguns and revolvers, supplying famous names such as William Evans, Holland & Holland and Purdey in days gone by.

Webley's revolvers, were standard issues to the Police and UK Armed Forces. Most army officers pistols were Webleys.

The Company began producing airguns 100 years ago this year and became famous for the Webley Service air rifle and for its Webley Tempest air pistol of which 500,000 were sold.

The Tempest is currently being produced in commemorative form, boxed and serial numbered.

A full history of the company is shown in the "Webley Story" written by William Chipcase Dowell, first published in 1862 and republished in 1967.
