Woolpower: Mid-Layer Full Zip Jacket 400

Woolpower: Mid-Layer Full Zip Jacket 400

Woolpower (formerly known as Ullfrote) make their woollen thermal clothing in Northern Sweden where they know about cold and as well as base-layers in 200gm2 (I can recommend the Crewneck 200) they also make a mid-layer range in 400g-600gm2.

I have been trying the Full Zip Jacket 400, which is made from a 400gm2 mix of 69% Merino Wool, 29% Polyamide, 2% Elastane knitted in a quite open knit, with terry loops on the inside surface. This allows the fabric to trap warm air for superior insulation while wool naturally wicks moisture away from your body.

The fabric is also hard wearing, easy to wash (even at 60 degree C), odour resistant (I wore my top next to the skin for a week with no noticeable pong), is flame-resistant and very importantly, I found it did not irritate my skin at all, not like old style woolly underwear!

The Full Zip Jacket 400 is meant to be worn over a base layer and has a full front zip, scooped back hem, a high double-thickness collar and double thick cuffs with thumb holes, so you can wear them as finger-less mitts.

Comfortable, very warm (the full zip allows good venting – you may well need it!) and practical, the Woolpower Full Zip Jacket 400 comes in sizes XS-XXXL in Black, Grey, Blue or Green andcosts approx £68.

Woolpower clothing is used and greatly admired by both Scandinavian and French Military units For more information and stockists visit koolbox.co.uk
