Many people argue that if flintlocks were so good, why was the percussion invented. Well people are always looking for an easier way to do things, & the firearms industry is no different. When the percussion was invented it did become popular with many sportsmen & women who lived in towns & cities where percussion caps became readily available. In wilderness areas however the woodsrunners & even the 19th century Mountain men never did take to using the percussion. For them this arm was simply not reliable enough when their very lives often depended on having a good reliable gun. For these people nothing less than a flintlock would do & the flintlock remained in use for many years after the percussion lock became popular in civilized areas.
