It was a boring day with a nice surprise in store.. this morning I was getting my windscreen replaced after a bloody big birdie hit it , no idea what species it was but it was big lol , any hoo , it was going to take around 2 hours to replace the screen , and I wasn’t sitting about waiting and the chap said he would phone me 20 minutes before he was finished (nice lad 👍🏻) so I was of for a sandwich and a bottle of water from Greg’s and a mooch along the river Tay …

After sitting for a while with my sandwich it was time to make my way back towards the car, as I stood up something in the water caught my eye… at first I thought it was a large fish and went over for a closer look , i quickly released it wasn’t a fish but 2 otters , I’m was a little taken back as after hearing about wild otters and spending countless hours and around 30 years around rivers , I’ve never seen one never mind two … bloody amazing 🤩 .. I got a little video that I’ll upload to my YouTube channel later one but here’s a few pictures of them 👍🏻😁😁 could have sat and watched them for hours!

I reckon your windscreen had an encounter with the famous Crieff Pterodactyl mate. I'm glad to see that you didn't try to pass off any of the more obscure otter pictures as Nessie On Holiday though ! ;)

Great pictures. They really are gorgeous creatures and your snaps and clip does them justice. Are otters common on that river? I'm not sure how common they are in UK.

I read once that many previously polluted rivers in Europe are starting to improve and fish and other wildlife are returning to them.

Were those otters aware of you watching them?

I’ve ask a few people about the otters in the river Tay and they seem to be a common feature about the river in certain parts, not so common to me as that’s the first time I’ve seen them in the wild and I’ve been around rivers most my life, there are also a lot of beaver damage around the river earn where I live so I will be trying to get a picture of them also 😁

As of the pollution side of things I’m not sure about that Alan , not up to speed on this however I would imagine if otters are there then things must be better.

I’m sure they knew I was there but it didn’t seem to bother them…. Tho im not the prettiest of buggers so they might of not had a good look at me 😂

Felt very privileged to watch them
