Hello everyone. I am relatively new to camping and the outdoors etc and i seem to have everything covered so far.....apart from clothing. I would like suggestions on trousers/jackets/undergarments etc

The cheaper the better of course but i dont mind paying more, basically what is the best you have used and what will you not leave at home ?

I will be climbing Munros and wee overnighters all around Scotland.

Thanks in advance.

Hi GlenV welcome to the forum :)

Your gonna get quiet a few different opinions mate, regarding bushcraft/camping clothing.

Imho you won't go wrong with the British army issue clothing, i rate and wear the pcs mtp combats, shirts and smocks when out wildcamping.

There's more technical and better gear, it's how much you are willing and want to spend.

Morning and ty. Yes i have lurked for a while on a few forums :ninja: and saw a lot of people like army issue items be it clothing, shelter etc. I should of narrowed it down really ie. Quick drying trousers under 30 quid.

Avoid wearing jeans in the wet, any of the workwear stuff works because it's designed for outside use so should dry out fairly quickly. Up in the north I'd go for long thermal underwear and long sleeved vest for use in your sleeping bag

Hi GlenV.

Please take a moment to introduce yourself in the "Welcome Section" of the forum.
This will give other members the chance to welcome you properly to the forum.

Thank you :thumbsup::)

Hi glen welcom mate..the army issued stuff is good but for fast drying you mite have to spend a little more £....have a look at karrimor....it dose get a bad name sometimes but if you want to keep it cheep then that's the one....a use it myself only because a don't mind recking it. And it's cheap! lol.

Hi, Glen.

I would start off by saying.....invest well in your clothing and research your options well before buying anything.

The outdoors is a wonderful space......but be prepared for its mood swings weather wise....and consider terrain......especially in your location:thumbsup:

Consider the seasons....Spring...Summer.....Autumn.....Winter.

The elements you will need protection from....Wind....Rain....Snow.....Hot and Cold conditions.

Synthetic materials have become technically brilliant and in many cases it could be argued are better than natural materials.....like cotton.
Synthetics dry quicker and do not stick to the skin when wet.....they offer more forgiving stretch also.
Wool definitely plays a big part in clothing options too.

HATS: Protection from the Sun...rain.....and cold.

Base layers: Synthetic or Marino wool.

Outer Shell: Breathable.....Wind Proof......Waterproof.....Hood.....plenty of pockets......waist and butt ties as well as sealed wrists for body temperature regulation.

Base Layers: Synthetic or Marino wool.

Mid Layers: Synthetic or Marino wool.

A good Woolen pullover preferably with zipped neck.

Trousers: Synthetic and offering stretch.

Socks: Wool or Synthetic..... cotton not so good.

Gaitors: Very handy.

Walking Poles: A great addition for fell/hill walking.... and handy for shelter building where you have no trees/sticks around you.

Boots: Buy the best boots you can afford....take time out to get professional advice for your needs.....and DO go for a fitting:thumbsup:
The soles on some boots do NOT perform well on wet rocks so ask the question.
Wear the boots in BEFORE you venture off on a long trip.

A good pair of waterproof trousers.

Being able to mix and match your kit is a bonus.......there is sooo much out there now.

What would I not be without or leave at home??
.......My Poncho...... its a trusted and useful piece of kit that I personally have a high regard for.

Good luck with your search for your outdoor kit........keep us updated on your purchases.

The Ridgeline smocks are well made and offer good value for money compared to some others available.
I have tried a couple of their smocks but did find some of them do sweat inside....if they appeal to you I can recommend the Monsoon Bushmaster...I have the smock....and the Jacket versions....excellent bits of kit.
