Planted some 2 year old crowns last year (see post/pics) and all of a sudden a huge spurt of growth might get some this year but am thinking give them another year to settle as they are in bins.

Why are they in bins?
Don't they belong in sandy garden earth?

In my opinion every plants grow better in the ground than in bins, if they belong in the country.

They look very healthy MM. It's very tempting to cut one isn't it? Patience is everything with Asparagus and i'd put your knife away for another year if you can, it's worth the wait.
