Met up with Al ( Bopdude) for a long awaited overnighter at weekend . Weather and opportunity conspired so we opted for a previously used site in a disssused Alum mine on the North Yorkshire Coast .

We had agreed a lightweight approach and I was keen to try out my sub 20lb load out ( basewight) which with added food , water , beer , wine and fuel was getting closer to 30lb ( but still lighter than previous loads)

All kit worked well but left me with a few tweaks to make ( I”ll be posting a couple of mini reviews in due course) . My biggest lesson was food and water , I need to have a think about simplifying rations and putting trust in my filtration kit !

Also need that balance between weight , functionality and comfort ! After all we’re not in the SAS !

Anyway here’s a few pics for now .....

Another good camp out, I had the bonus of doing the previous night as well but opted for Runswick Bay, again ;) I'll post up a couple of pictures in a bit :)

EDIT: and yes to the above re weights of food stuffs and water filter trust ;)

Hi Rob and Al.

Some great pictures there guys (A couple of which could go into the forum Photo Competition ;) )
Stunning venue what a place to while away a few hours......very nice.
Two cracking setups there, minimalistic and functional.

Finding the perfect balance will come with the more trips you do, each one telling you more.
Looking at those setups you must be very close already.
Great use of the hiking poles....they offer so much more than just walking/trekking aids.

If you have a water source nearby.......get stuck in with the water filters.....they do work

Got to say it was nice to see the portable BQQ off the ground so no scars left behind;)

How do you manage for toilet duties.......do you carry out?

Look forward to your next outing report.......nice post thanks for sharing

Hi Bill, yeah we are close to getting there re kit, it's just hard letting go of the tried and tested heavier stuff and leaving bits behind, toilet wise, on a 2 nighter it's rare that I have to do a number 2, I can control it ;) if going then dig a hole and cover, and burn the paper for me.
In no particular order

Hi Al. :)

I like what you have done with the tarp....nice shelter.....good admin area...... and easy and quick to adapt if it gets a bit nasty
Letting go of the old tried and tested items is always a bind..... I feel the same way:).........feels like your leaving home with no pants on :alert:
Again...more stunning pictures.....thanks for sharing mate:thumbsup:

The tarp was originally pitched in an A frame config but inclement weather meant doing the mod for admin and just keeping dry, it did have the added bonus of rain water collection and having the bbq just on the edge meant we could eat :)

Ideal Al.....I often use the same kind of set up myself......often have a small controlled fire in the Gelert or Firebox too when it's chilly.
An admin area is a real comfort to tuck underneath of if you need it.
