Does anyone know some where I can have custom weapons or tools made? I've seen a few sites on google but its hard to tell if they make cheap stuff meant to look good and nothing more or something you could actually use for real forestry. Specifically I'm considering having a seax but with a saw tooth section near the hilt and maybe a small hand guard made.

Firstly , i'd suggest you call them 'Tools' or 'replics' - The term Weapon to some ( inclduing the police.. ) indicates you are intending to cause harm with it.

Dave Budd will make some very original looking Seax but at a price.
I'd suggets you make these things yourself. Learn the skills as its too niche.

I got a Viking Axe at a medieval fayre in Glastonbury during the summer.
the one thing I haven't got in my collection which I would love is an American Army Ka-bar knife but I fear that's probably outside my budget as they don't seem to be available this side of the pond unless from very expensive suppliers.

A guy called Owen Bush, look him up online...he's a trained bladesmith. Problem is that you'll get what he gives you, not necessarily what you ask for. Still he makes bloody good tools.
As part of my efforts to balance prepping with legality I don't usually refer to tools as weapons either, even if they could be used as such.

remember Cheapshots, to a prepper a knife is NOT a weapon, its a TOOL same as a screwdriver or a chisel.

Yup, that's him...nice guy as well, I used to know him from the exhibition team craft fair circuit when he had just started out. A proper craftsman.

Thank you for the help and i'll bare in mind the use of proper terminology in the future.

I have made Inuit styl Ulu in the past using the steel from a worn out saw blade. It's conceivable that you could shape and sharpen a thin but razor sharp blade out of a saw blade retaining the toothed edge on the back of the blade.

As I said in the original post a seax with a saw tooth blade at the hilt. As additional versatility to an already very useful tool.

At the moment am making a bowie for my cousin. A modified seax sounds like a nice challenge.

I thiink making one is a good idea - even if its a mess you will learn loads and its not that difficult.

Green Petes Guide HERE is a good start

Ref getting someone to make you one - I think that will be a costly affair for what is a fairly basic blade.

You could just get yourself a Skarma

I'd like to ask why you want a Saw Tooth section ??
And with respect how much experience and use have you had with Bladed tools etc? I know that sounds like i;m challenging you but its a sincere question - have you used green wood working tools much in the past?

Nothing basic about Owen's blades Prime, they're beautifully folded steel.

Hi , No I didn't mean to disrespect Owens work I just meant the Seax design has no difficult blade geometery or angles - its not an intricate shape or design ( i;m sure Owens work is the best of the best ) but a usable Seax tool could be fashioned with some simple hand tools at home.

IMO.

You can beat a useable blade out of a piece of old leaf spring but it doesn't give me the same kind of pleasure, I guess it's just knife porn. ;)

which would be the more usable skill? for what we are preparing for:-

A) Pick up phone and place an order for a shiny bit of kit with a Credit Card

B) Make a Blade from scratch , learn the various aspects and requirements.
