Hey Guys,

Just sharing my wee video of my day out with my friend Charles. @G1ZmO hadn’t said if he was going out or not today.

I ask for some feedback about the fire which I still greatly welcome however upon reviewing the footage I think for certain it was my kindling that failed me, too large.

Hope yall enjoy and have a Blessed Day

Hi Stephen,
Sorry I couldn't make it this week though my wife and I planned a wee walk down there on Friday but we ran out of time. It looks like next week I may be working on Friday prior to going on the week long highlands camp so suspect I may not get out before I go away.
Did Charles not want to be on camera? Did he enjoy the experience?
Hammock: You really need about 12 feet between the trees and place the supporting lines about face height. The DD hammock looks ideal though. Can you see out at all when zipped up inside?
Fire: What happened to the feather sticks you mentioned trying? I think if you had done that then the pine kindling would have had more time to catch. Glad you got the flame going with the birch bark.
Keep it up matey. :)

Yeah that’s no worries mate, understandable :) yeah the feather sticks were suppose to happen however I simply forgot XD as for the hammock it’s really see through. If I head out tomorrow I shall remember to make feather sticks :p

We're at Section 8 tomorrow so I can't be there I'm afraid. Itching to get out again though.

Nice video mate.

If you take a file to the spine of your knife..... that should sort out the strikes on the fero rod:thumbsup:

As for the fire Stephen.....I had the same problem ....try having a handful of really thin twigs for when your tinder bundle is alight and then build on it from there until your using the larger logs for the fires main fuel

A still muck it up mate so no worries :D

I’ll give that a bash with a file tomorrow then never thought of that 💡 thanks for the feed back also @mark wilson

No worries Stephen

Enjoying your videos mate. Keep em coming...always good to watch a video in my native tung

Well....that is two attempts Stephen:rolleyes::D.........maybe in the next video you will get the forum name right......we are "The Bushcraft forum".......not "Bushcraftu.k."

A couple of links here that might be useful and helpful to you with the hammock.

For a striker maybe try a piece of an old hacksaw blade about 4 inches long.....works well..... or as Mark said, file the back of your knife so it leaves a burr.

What a shame to see the rubbish left behind by others at the old shelter:(

Good video thanks for sharing

I done it intentionally to annoy you @1 shot willie xD, I did get it right at the start of the video but don't worry the link is always correct ! :D thanks for the feedback and links :)

Pulling my hair out I was

Any hope you will get it right next time :sneaky:;)

Did you find the links useful??

@Stephen

This may also interest you mate.

"Whoopie Slings" and tree straps offer a quick/secure setup and easy adjustment of your hammock.
The drip rings are a must or you could wake up very wet in the hammock if it tips it down using the webbing rope you have on the hammock at the moment.
You can also use a Karribina for a drip ring.

They are extremely strong and made from "Amsteel"

I went for the 8ft tree straps and 6ft whoopie slings the same as the guy in the video........cope with most tree widths.

Always good to keep your foot end about 2 inches above the head end.....helps stop you ending up in a ball in the middle of the hammock.

Or use one of Bills wax tablets, they start with a single spark and burn for about 7 minutes so hot enough to get your tinder going

It's nice to do things in the traditional manner, gathering your tinder as you go.
Always nice to have a back up if things don't go quite to plan, and it means you go without a hot drink, food, or much-needed warmth because the fire won't play ball.
I don't feel it's being defeatist......more having a backup plan..........IF you need it :D:thumbsup:
