I bought this on Sunday. Since then I've given it a clean up, re-conditioned the iron and made a handle for it. Next job is an adjustable hanger in steel.

I cleaned it with a wire brush to take the surface rust off then I used a steel pan scrubber and finally washed it in hot soapy water and dried it.
During this time the oven was heating to 176 C or 350 F.
I quickly covered the entire pot in a thin film of vegetable oil (lard is even better but I had none) the whole pot went into the oven for 90 minutes and was allowed to cool in the oven after it was switched off.
Easy peasy...

The handle was surprisingly difficult to get right, it looks simple but was awkward to attach.
