Granddaughter lit her first fire

Myself and @Pelagia took our (nearly) 7 year old granddaughter down to the local glen for a couple of hours and she managed to light the fire with a ferro rod (and cotton pad).
It took her a while but she persisted until she got it.
We were all well chuffed.

My 7 year old grandson has become pretty handy with a ferro rod but, so far, has failed to start a fire with it. I'd been using fatwood and to use cotton wool is an inspired idea that I hadn't thought of. I shall report back soon on his progress.
