So I now know what the problem is with my heel. Saw a very informative doctor and now have to see podiatrist for next step. Attached is the MRI scan picture. I have a lump on my heel which is causing discomfort of the Achilles tendon. Hopefully it will go away without surgery. It probably all started when I stepped in a concealed rabbit hole in the woods two years ago. Take care folks.

It is one of those things that comes and goes, I have something similar on my right heel...the doctors refer to it as a spur. I invested in some really good quality insoles that bear a high proportion of my weight on the instep. It doesn't exactly go away but overdoing things can aggravate it. When it's at its worst I use a stick on my left side to bear a portion of the weight as I put my right foot down. The good news is that you can go years without it giving you any bother.
