This is my latest project, a spoon carved from a piece of sycamore.
Yes I'm afraid it was sanded, I'm still working on my knive skills and haven't perfected that smooth finish the pros get with just a knife. That looks smooth. I try to use Birch I find Sycamore a bit hard going.

Yep that's were this one is going.Me neither but I'm too idle to sand them We use them in the kitchen at home so they get washed and oiled regularly and soon smooth out. I tend to make dished spatulas more than spoons.
Not sure, have some hazel ready to use, which will lend itself to spoons or spatulas, I have a piece of hawthorn marked up for a catapult but it is going to take some cutting as it's well seasoned.whats next on the list
You should try using beech or ash then you'll really know what sore fingers areThat looks smooth. I try to use Birch I find Sycamore a bit hard going.
I've often thought about trying that stuff Bill but I heard that it was just a slightly harder version of balsaYou can get some nice Bass wood on Amazon....different sizes and prices....if interested.
