Anyone do any modelling ? I find it relaxing and good for mindfulness , started as a kid with my granddad and now I have a grandson of my own , it’s something I hope to do with him in the future .

Here’s a few of mine , what have you made ?

Not something I have tried rob, not my cup of tea. But yours look really smart mate, nice paint work on them . A was more of a Lego lad lol

I used to do a fair bit when I was wandering in my boat. It all started years before when I was a Seaman, and watched the older hands making models. No CD players / Transistor radios in those days...:D

Here's my Gaff Cutter anchored in the Greek Islands..

When I crossed from Gran Canaria to Martinique it took me 30 days, plenty of time, so I put my boat in a bottle...:lol:
I was alone, so apart from talking to myself, sailing the boat and watching the sea life, there was little else to do.

I've got some square rigged vessels in bottles that I did about 50 years ago, stowed away somewhere.

Nice job on them Rob :thumbsup:

Used to do a bit years ago......building "Billings Boats"
Made a couple and sold them on.
Still got one in the loft not completed....."The Norske Love" beautiful model......brass fittings.
Most of the Billings boats are plank on frame......so you start with the keel (Best to make a jig).....set the frames and then start planking etc.
One I really enjoyed building was the "Cup 87 Krabbenkutter"

Nice pass time and very rewarding.:thumbsup:

One of my neighbours is an ex merchant navy captain and his big hobby is model ship making. The last one I saw as a work in progress was basically a skeleton after 5 years work. He researches historic ships before he starts and finds as near as possible the original makers drawings and then hand carves each individual plank, rib etc from scratch. They really are something else but how he finds the patience let alone the skill involved absolutely blows my mind. I suppose really I ought to ask him if I could take some pictures some time :)

I'd love to see one of those, I bet they are works of art. I used whatever materials I had to hand, match sticks, sewing cotton, plastacine and good old Gamley's Toy shop model paint. Oh! and Airfix glue...names from the past.....:D

@Bionic

Pictures would be smashing mate :thumbsup: ......I think they call what he does "Scratch Building"
All the researching and working from original drawings is a lot different to opening a box you buy in a shop......clever guy.
