if you out in the woods and you are a day or so away from help .............if you cut your self and need to clean the wound and treat it for infection.................

(1) wash the wound with water(fresh if poss...if not boiled and cooled)
(2) look for a silver birch tree ..
(3) collect some leaves and add to boiling water to make an anti bac wash.
 
Spagnum Moss was used in place of field dressings during the great war as it has antiseptic qualities. Honey also works very well. Native tribes including native Americans would staunch wounds with spider webs
 
Aspirin was originally derived from willow bark, a willow bark tea can be produced to both numb the pain and provide a mildly antiseptic wash.

Also works to stop bleeding. Had a friend who cut into his thumb with his axe one night. Stopped the blood flow pretty quick.
