Could anyone explain what a scandi grind is, and if you don't have it what are the alternatives please? Can you change an old axe into a scandi grind axe? Do old axes have scandi, or are they a new thing?

Thanks. Rich.

Scandi grind is short or hollow grind starts at the edge and only goes 1 third of the blade up the blade shaft. Easy to sharpen and not as prone to chips as others. Good for a bushcraft knife as it helps with carving. Dulls fastest tho... if the axe doesn’t have a scandi grind or similar then I wouldn’t suggest changing the grind as it will weaken the blade

Scandi grind for Axes???

That's usually for knifes.

The blade is thick, but sharp and easy to sharpen. If you cut carrots on a board the pieces jump around. Only Vikings are able to hit the target in this sport.
Flat grind like you find it at Opinel knives are better in the kitchen and very good for carving too.

Your new Mora has a light scandi grind.
If the blade would be thicker, the carrot pieces would hop through the window and over the garden fence.
No problem in Sweden, where they don't have fences!
