shooting insurance

Insurance! It’s a fickle mistress lol , have it and normally don’t need it, don’t and you’ll probably need it, each to there own gentleman 😁 I know a lad who pays through the nose for car insurance because he likes to stick with what he knows. To most including me this would seem strange however he’s not a stranger lad 🤷🏼‍♂️ ….really it’s peace of mind imo so whatever gives you that is right for you I suppose

Very politic of you Mark, wise words.

When I say fluffy, I mean I didn’t get that warm fluffy feeling about the company, being that cheap for the money
Gunplan has won industry awards for its specialist insurance. They tend to offer introductory discounts and keep it cheap and rather than running national adds they keep their advertising focussed. It’s run through a firm called Ripe who are actually part of the parent company Aviva, they’re not paying commission to outside agencies like BASC, NGO and their insurance brokers, you in turn would not be paying the extra to cover that commission or the tax on that commission or money for glossy quarterly magazines telling you why you should be supporting them..it adds up quite quickly. If you really want those magazines then great but there are other sources of information and other groups lobbying on your behalf.
The relationship between your insurance companies are not as transparent as you might think either, for instance Zurich (brokered by Marsh Assoc.) who insure BASC members changed their underwriters in 2021 so BASC members have been dealing with an entirely new company for the last 12 months without ever knowing it unless they’re into reading the fine print.

Sorry but I have been in BASC since I joined WAGBI in the early 70`s, (as a junior) continuing thereafter when joining rifle / pistol clubs and syndicate associations, where being a member of BASC was a requirement and potentially still the accepted for rough, game, fowling, general field sports, insurance expanding over a multitude of liability cover.
All country pursuits field sports, to which I participate, practiced over 55+ years including falconry (B.F.A member which I still practice), are within the confines of the law, legislation, SGC, FAC, appendix 1 hawks & falcons licenced /registered with the DEFRA/ D.O.E, hunted within the country code during the game season dates, so on all accounts I have no concerns.

Unfortunately my opinion of not getting a `warm fluffy feeling for Gunplan` is my prerogative, my annual insurance subscription to BASC will be maintained, as I feel they represent the whole country sport scenario to which I participate, I look forward to receive the quarterly magazine, which is informative, as is the weekly arrival of `The shooting times` subscription.

The BASC for me. Mainly as it covers pretty much all shooting activities at a stroke if you want it to. The gamekeepers on both the neighbouring shoots use them as do the family of the farms I live on.
Upgraded from the airgun to full when I applied for my sgc.
While I don't agree with some stuff they've done they are as close as we're getting to a shooting organisation and have always been there when I call or email.
Follow The Countryside Alliance on faceache but not sure why I haven't joined 🤔 and no intention of competing with the shotguns so no need for The CPSA.

No need to be sorry Excalibre, I’m just giving you some facts, obviously it is up to you all how much and who you spend your money with, if you’re happy with the service they’re providing then that is all that matters. I’m not knocking BASC‘s insurers, I’m just pointing out that they’re not the only player in the game and cost four times the price. I have never encountered any venues or shoots that insisted on BASC insurance as opposed to insurance from any other organisation.
Should anyone kindly like to get their insurers to offer an additional introductory discount for other forum members any links could be posted in the VIP section for subscribing members of the forum.
Manny, have you ever had any dealings with the GWCT? They also do a huge amount of lobbying on behalf of shooters as do the Gun Traders Association.
