Campfire (ish) photos...Never in company, always alone. I prefer the silence of the woods. The sound of smart phones, the whirring of camcorders, or even the bleep of people checking farce book to see if anyone likes them, would result in instant execution...

Night of Samhain in the wood.
When the tent was stiff with frost and the woods crackled with the cold, the Vixen would pass close to my camp screaming her mating call. What seemed like just weeks later when the year turned her cubs would come close as the daylight in the wood faded. They probably came to see who the strange old bloke was, who spoke to them and slept in the wood...

Mostly Hornbeam with a mix of Ash and Beech. Ancient woodland coppiced for Charcoal to feed the furnaces of the Sussex Iron Masters from Medieval times up to the mid 1950's.
