Wales Spring meet 2023 - Chatter and banter and pictures .

So the time has come for us to start wrapping up a few items ready for the drive home tomorrow... It looks like we will have dry weather for the pack up in the morning... I've had a great time and as always good company and excellent:cool: hostes big thanks to Mike and Louise for letting a bunch of weirdos camp on their land for a week :)
We managed to raise over, £200 towards the running costs of the forun so well done all involved and thank you to those who made the drive to spend the week with us..

Till the next time safe travels home all

....as well as a hat acquired in dubious circumstances. 🤔

Sitting waiting on our steaks at our digs in Wigan. Mega busy Good Friday. Loads of piccies to come when we get home.

Thanks again to Mike and Louise for hosting us for the week and to Matt for organising the meet.

Cheers, Paul, Mel and Elmer 🤣

Pesky wabbits!

We got to Mike's place at about 13:30 on Sunday and got our 'big top' 5m bell tent set up with a bit of guidance from the more experienced bellen.. I mean 'bell tent campers'. :)
My son, Daniel, opted for hammocking and coped fine even with the sub-zero temperatures on a couple of nights.

I'm not going to do an hour by hour timeline but here are the highlights:

Weather - Lovely and sunny for all but one day when we had a fair bit of rain. Couldn't really have hoped for a better week really though it did get down to around -5C a couple of nights.
Foraging - Guided by @Paul N we identified a bunch of wild edibles, tasted some and picked a load of ransoms (wild garlic) which Paul instructed me on how to prep this as garlic pesto. Very nice it was too!
Natural Cordage - Again with Paul's guidance I stripped the bark from a piece of willow, which we then boiled a couple of times and I have it soaking at home here to complete the process since I understand from Paul what needs done now. Kind of ran out of time at the meet.
Hunting/shooting - A wee bit of target practice and Matt, Daniel and myself went hunting a few times but only Matt and Daniel had success. Daniel bagging his first rabbit which can be seen on this thread here in the hunting section.

Mike and Louise made us feel very welcome on their land and joined us around the fire for a few drinkies and banter in the evenings. Thanks again to them both.

Video may take some time but here are some photos.
