Are those the lava rocks on a gas BBQ or coals on a repurposed gas BBQ; if the latter do you find yourself absent mindedly turning it off? (I once did)

Lava rocks on a gas BBQ. I inherited it 8 years ago when I bought the bungalow.
Up to then I was a confirmed charcoal BBQ man. I have to say the convenience of the unit plus the excellent cooking results have won me over.

Tried both and there equally affective at cooking lol I do prefer the coals tho (still mastering it ) the foods edible so am not far of the mark
