The weather here has been warm and dry for about the past month. Local Farmers and Gardeners are hoping for rain, and I noticed the level of water in the nearby lake has dropped enough to show part of the foundations.
The low water level has provided new places to gather the kids together, where they can sort out their rapidly growing new feathers...
The local Ducks sit in the nearby shade watching the antics of their larger neighbours.
The day was hot and the Greenwood cool and inviting. I took the higher trail which follows the lake shore down to the nearby sea.
This Wild Flower is Germander Speedwell which will flower until July.
The Beech Tree is known as the Queen of the woods in England, and this one bears the marks of passing young couples, but she is probably only a century old and will outlive her visitors by several Centuries.
Crossing the Dam on the way to the seashore, the lake is full of Water Lillies in bloom, looking like white stars floating on the still water.
When last down here the rough seas were crashing over the rocks, but today it is much quieter which is ironic as I read that much of the world is in turmoil, but not here thankfully.
Climbing to the cliff top I saw one of the Border Patrol Force Cutters cruising offshore.
Just inland from the cliff top is the site of an Ancient Settlement. Dated to the Stone Age, all that remains are vague shapes in the ground and the scattered stones and rocks used to build the houses. A Cairn constructed in the 1800's and made from stones gathered at the site marks the old settlement.
The feint outline of buildings can still be seen in the dry ground.
Nearby is a Standing Stone. A Gathering place for Worship, or trial, or perhaps just somewhere for Tribal Kings to speak to the people.
The wide sides of the Stone face exactly East and West on my compass.
So, it's time to sit in silence with the spirits of the old people, drink tea and just enjoy the peace and beauty of this land.
Home through the wood and marvel at the strange shapes of Nature.
The old trees here seem to come alive like crooked Wizards when the strong winds come in from the sea.
Stay safe folks..
