The Martindale Golok / Machete modded for survival.

this is the same as my one mark. like mine it does not have the crocodile stamp but as far as I know the crocodile stamp was introduced after these ones. (Mine has upright arrows and 1993) This one below has the same stamps as mine, military mart are a reconised army surplus supplier you could email or call them and ask if it has the markings or not and if not don't bother, I will continue searching ;)

The crocodile badge was the martindale badge and they were the producers of the British army machete, martindale themselves state that it was on all of their official issue golok.

That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them but if you want the genuine British army golok then it will have the crocodile and be 13"/33cm long in the blade. They also have three grooves in the blade to help get them free from green wood.

The sheath pictured is the bayonet outer sheath designed to be worn with PLCE webbing.

Well the above is all I can find mate, seems they have all now gone, I personally wouldn't go with the longer version. But how about the Martin dale paratrooper knife, I suspect this is the replacement for my model as I've heard many complained that there was no stabbing capability in its use a general survival knife/tool. I guess the longer versions are not current issue either in general however they might still be on issue for jungle deployment and the current paratrooper knife will be the current issue for a while. Why not check out the current paratrooper martindale mark?

There does seem to be some debate on this crocodile stamp issue on many forums, mine is stamped with arrows and numbers and 1993 and from what I understand these were made and stamped with the above by the martindale company prior to the crocodile stamp being introduced (when they become an established MOD and NATO supplier)

This might help. . . It appears the early models were stamped with the crocodile on the wood handle not the blade, I cant remember my handle stamp as I sanded and varnished my handle as soon as I got it as that's what was current at that time and because the handle finish was poor and by doing so it preserve and made the handle more comfortable.

This stacks up as the current martindale paratrooper is now also stamped on the handle! Looks like they have gone back to previous ideas.

When looking for the older model I have, look for these style handle rivets:

The only real concern should be the quality of the tool; however having said that martindale have only ever listed the golok no 2 as with a 33cm blade, the short ones can be listed as British army style but are unlikely to be genuine issue.

But if it works it doesn't really matter!

The above (my) golok were defently military issue 38. Maybe uk special forces only and they then rolled out the No 2 for general issue later, Or maybe my version was a NATO or other uk controlled country military issue tool. Martin dale became known as 'the' quality manufacturer of reliable machetes and in their early days and even now they specialise only in supplying in bulk to worldwide military and private companies.

As I said it's pretty academic; if it works for you it doesn't matter the source but the golok no 2 has been issued since the late 50s and is still on the shelves in the stores, it will be a long time for it to disappear...

Remember to look for the same rivets mark, if its not right sent it back ;)
