As you guys know , Al (Bopdude) and I were trying out a new location that we had high hopes for turning into a permanent camp , sadly that was not to be the case 😔 as the site proved just to busy to find the solitude we were after.

We were allowed access to the woods surrounding the youth hostel at Boggle hole between Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar . The site is mixed woodland on a either side of a beck , the valley sides are steep and the site has access onto the beach and the Cleveland way . We had hopes for chilling , beach foraging and a few whiskeys .

We set up our hammocks in a quiet spot just before tea time on the Friday using a sleeping platform as our admin area. There was plenty of dead wood for a fire and we settled in for the evening ....

Saturday saw us having a lie in ( maybe a bit too much whiskey 🥃😳 ) and a leisurely breakfast . We then ventured onto the beach for bit of exploration and foraging although we decided we need to develop our skills in that area before we were prepared to eat our catch , a walk back along the beach saw us in Robin Hoods Bay and a quick walk back along the cliff top took us back to boggle for a couple of pints and lunch .
Maybe it was the fresh air or perhaps the lunchtime drinking but the afternoon saw us both taking a well deserved nap 😴💤.

Saturday night routine was as standard for our trips , a mega cook up and more beers and whisky before early to bed , it’s hard graft this wild camping 😜

A few pics in no particular order.

Bed for 2 nights, it was forecast to be chilly overnight so I took the Snugpak Cocoon as well, slept great the first night ( Whisky fuelled maybe ) too warm the second night.

We do like to try and eat well while we're out and we're also trying ( read failing ) to keep the weight down ;) on that score I got the dehydrator out again and dehydrated some beef and veg for the first nights dinner.

It wasn't too bad but I either have to let the beef soak way longer before heating or just take beef chunks that haven't been dehydrated as per second nights meal.

It really is a stunning area with some great beaches and cliff views.

Saturday breakfast, I need to go back to my wraps as these 'thins' just aren't cutting the mustard, they fall to pieces, the one pot 12cm frying pan is working though, bacon bits fried off and a mixed up egg to bind it together :)

Ooops, did I mention I was hungry, second breakfast of MRE Chicken sausages and beans ;)

There's more food porn and views but you get the picture, a great weekend if only a tad busy, great job from @Madriverrob for securing the permission, looking forward to the next trip out but that could be a while for me ?

Onwards and upwards :)

I've had difficulty with dehydrated meat and the Quorn chicken pieces. They take a LOT of hydrating although Quorn mince is fine.

Glad you guys had a good time.

Yeah think I'll give up on dehydrating meat pieces and just take the Tesco beef bits in future they worked well in Saturdays dinner, beef in a packet sauce and Idahoian mash :)

Brambling has recommended soya chunks, I'll be giving that a go. I'll let you know how i go, I'm sure shell be along to keep us right.

You called?:D I gave up trying to dehydrate meat a couple of years ago. It never rehydrates properly and just makes a meal a misery. So I went on a quest for something else and after a few mishaps, like trying to dehydrate Quorn that as Bam said, doesn't work, I tried various soy protein products. I use Protex pea protein mince really good, is an 'instant' mince soak in hot water or stock for a few minutes and it's ready to go. The same company also do soy strips, buttons and fillets. The fillets and strips are light and good substitute for pork or chicken and the buttons are a great substitute for beef. these last 3 products need to be cooked for about 15 mins before use or if you're making a stew or something as long as you cook them for 15-20 mins it works. I've made some really good fajitas with the strips and a cracking beefy type stew with the buttons. The texture is firm and the thing I like is that the end result doesn't have that mealy 'soy' taste.

I have found another company that makes soya protein, but I've yet to try them.

Cheers for the info, I'll be giving that a try!
