After a top night hammocking in the woods at Sandsend we bugged out the the Hayburn Wyke pub near Cloughton Scarborough .

Cloughton and Hayburn Wyke: North York Moors National Park

We were early on site and this is a popular walking and cycling destination so we wanted to remain as anonymous as possible .

We decided to leave the gear and walk into the site to recce potential spots . Descending through the woods identifies numerous hammock and ground dwelling sites but once we reach the Wyke itself it’s a no brainer , we’re gonna camp as close to the sea as possible ......

We won’t be able to hammock ( no trees) but Al has his bivvy bag and I’m going to use my DD frontline on the ground as a tent ......

So back up to the pub for some grub and a couple of pints then down to the Wyke to chilll , nap and a few more beers till it quietens down .

So once the tourists had left we started to unpack our kit and sort out a fire pit . Someone had had a fire previously , a bit big for our liking but it seemed best to use the same spot but keep the fire small .

After a few more beers and some rum , oh and some whisky ! It was time for tea , Al was on dehydrated chilli and I was on a chicken / lentil curry combo ......

Just as we were chilling a group of lads could be heard approaching ! Here we go I thought but it turned out they were going to fish ! It was dark by now and Al and I couldn’t see the attraction of hanging around in the dark waiting for something to happen !

Once they’d gone we did a bit of star gazing and bedded down for the night . I have to say the views and skyline on the North East Coast are some of the best I’ve ever seen .

After a great nights sleep we awoke to more atmodpheric skylines which we watched develop as we brewed our morning coffee. We were up now so it was a quick pack up , a brisk walk out and off home .

Another great two nighter with good company and fantastic location. Where to next ???

OK, so to continue, we had talked about Hayburn Wyke for long enough as a possible camp spot, now we were doing it, Rob had been previously so knew what to expect, I wasn't disappointed.

The walk in and down to the sea.

After this lot was (nearly) finished the walk back down would find the sunshine very welcoming, a few beers on an afternoon is no good though, mats were rolled out and snoozing began :D

Rob checking out his DD Frontline hammock in bivvy mode.

Which worked out well, too good judging by the noises that were to come out of it later that night lmao :)

A few beers later and it was time to eat ( again ) Rob was on curry and I was on chilli con carne ( dehydrated of course )

We were marvelling at the stars on what was a clear night, a shooting star saw me grinning like a Cheshire cat :)

A fantastic Moonrise

Followed by an even more fantastic Sunrise, wild camping doesn't get better than this often.
