Hi Paul and Daniel.
Can't really see from the picture.......but it looks very much like some large Horse Hoof fungus.
Also known as Amado.
Makes good tinder if your in no rush to get a fire going
This video shows one way of preparing it for use.

Could do however the video seems to suggest that the smaller hoofs are better for tinder. Might give it a go or look for some smaller ones on that tree though.
