Hi guys been a while.

I am interested in some wild camping with the mrs and little girl, with some Kayaking involved.Have been looking at scotland but would love to be nearer to home in wales for first time.So thought i would come on here and ask the people in the know.

Any advice?
Would love it to include the Kayaks and maybe camp on island on lake or something thats why thought scotland to start.

The Wye is free access from Glasbury all the way down to Chepstow, you'd need to plan your own camps and it may be a little difficult to find sites to suit your needs that are adjacent to the river. You'd also need to arrange a vehicle and driver to pick you up at Chepstow.
Alternatively the Dee has some of the best white water kayaking in the world...it all depends what you're into.

Hi edd.

There are a few lads here from Scotland @Ark79 and @G1ZmO that are very much in the know and will have some good advice and suggestions on where to camp.
Having a little girl along its worth doing some research as far as the Midge situation goes......they can drive adults crazy.......for a little girl, it would be hell at the wrong time

If you are an experienced Kayaker ignore my next comment and I apologize for trying to teach you how to suck eggs :D

Lakes and Lochs are wonderful and tempting.......they look serene and inviting........but can turn into some very choppy and frightening waters very quickly if the conditions change for the worst.......getting back could be a real problem for you......safty gear is a must

Look forward to hearing about, and seeing pictures of your family trips

Thanks guys.
1 shot, i used to be an experienced kayaker years ago but dont worry when comes to the saftey and my little girl im always thinking safety. As for the wrong time i never thought of that thank you.

Yastranc- never thought of the WYE thanks as thats only an hour from me went down it the other week!Dee would be abit much for now sadly haha

There are organised trips down the Wye, the two main companies that do it seem to have a lot of the camping and landing sites sewn up. :( Everything is getting so commercialised these days.
If you think you can plan a two day trip there is this place just outside Ross on Wye, it's not wild camping but who knows, maybe the other half would appreciate a proper sit down toilet and a shower. Prices
Maybe plan it as the halfway point?
