I make a nice rum from marrows. Slice the top off a marrow and pack the cavity inside with Demerara sugar. Pour activated yeast over the sugar and the juice from an orange. Tape the top back on and leave it to hang in a warm place for a few weeks. Then make a hole in the bottom and drain the liquid into a demi john and ferment as normal.
Makes a lovely dark brown rum. Shame I don't drink myself but my mates love it. I make a pretty mean mead as well but that stuff is lethal.
