winter boots

Another vote for Lowa boots; I've had mine ten years and smashed the sh*t out of them and they are still super comfy and have years left in them.

Also my current work boots are twenty year old scarpa sl. They look battered but are still very warm and comfortable.

They cost more but if they fit you then quality is worth it for your feet.

Forgot to mention both pairs are plane leather; as an infantryman I never went for gotetex boots as at some stage they will get wet and they take an age to dry. Good quality leather well treated is weather resistant and I could always wear waterproof socks if I needed to.

+ 1 for Lowa boots, I've got a pair Lowa desert elites, they are the most comfiest boots I've ever worn. I'm be buying a leather pair for the winter months

I bought my Lowa deserts on ebay, i got them for a steal. I wouldn't recommend folk buy boots without trying on first.

I'll be buying a non gortex lined pair, i find my feet sweat in the gortex lined ones.

Wow......boots boots boots, I don't care if it's Aviemore, the Cairngorms or the highest peak in Scotland the temperatures are never going to get so low that you need specialist boots and kit, common sense and dressing correctly are all you need. I apologise to all the kit freaks but it's fact

Edmund Hilary's Everest team trained in the Cairngorms precisely because the conditions were so harsh.

In my opinion and based on the use I put them to on operations and exercise lowa boots are worth the high price for the quality and years of use they deliver.

I agree it can be harsh up there if you're going to stay there for a prolonged period of time, it can be harsh down here in the south as well at times but I've never had to kit out like an arctic explorer

Not sure it's artic levels we/I am talking about.

I'd regard winter boots as what were regarded previously as proper leather boots, lined or unlined as opposed to summer boots which would probably be a fabric boot which may be lined to have an element of waterproofness to deal with summer morning damp grass etc

Properly speaking (in mountaineering terms) winter boots would be either incredibly stiff leather or more recently plastic, boots able to take gaiters.

A lot of boots these days have the so called quick lace up hooks....you have lace holes so far up the boot then have to wind the lace around the pegs to close the boot.....I find these a total pain in the Arris.
Bring back lace up's I say:whistle:

Makes them easier to take off.

You could find one if you moved to the Bushcraft Bitch capital of the world though mate. ;)

If you didn't spend so much money on kit (You tart) you could probably afford to pay for a 2nd home in Plymouth outright ! :D

Naughty naughty you can't speak to your elders like that young man:eek:

Talking of TART......I bought a nice pair of pull on boots from Matt about 3 years ago now....I think?
They have been brilliant...NEVER leaked and warm.
I have put them through the mill with hunting and bushcraft/wild camping.....always looked after them...but now even though they are not leaking YET...its time to replace them.

I like the pull on's as I have a problem bending to do up laces:whistle::rofl:.....and I have found the LESS time you spend being bent over at the meets.....the better:sneaky::whistle:..... @Matt :sneaky: :notlistening:

So I have ordered a pair of these.
