Its always nice when you pick out a piece of wood to cut into, one which you know is going to be nice due to the features on the outside of the log.... There is generally more going on than you can see...... i expected this to have a pippy burr effect..... but did not expect the colours...

Nicest bit of Yew i have ever seen i think....:)



 
Considering I only like dark woods I really don't mind this at all...Nice Work Fella :D
 
Yew will take on a purple tinge when it has been in contact with metal over a prolonged period. Nails, staples etc. It does make some stunning patterns.
 
what a cracking bit of wood mate. i bet you had fun sanding that with the direction of grain and the knots!
