I recently bought a Jack Pyke Pellet Pouch off eBay. I have used it a few times now, so I thought I would do a review of it, to let you know how it shapes up.
In it's closed state, it measures about 4 and 1/2" square, and is about 1 1/2" thick, and is claimed by the makers to hold 500 pellets. If you only half filled it though, it is also just about big enough to hold a spare magazine or two.
The one I have is made from a heavyweight ripstop 600D Polyester, and is finished in the Jack Pyke "English Oak" camo pattern, but it is also available in both black and olive green too.
The loop through which the belt fits is attached by strong Velcro, so there is no need to have to remove your belt from your trouser loops to fit it, or take it off.
Velcro also secures the front flap which closes the pouch when pellets are not needed. I have heard comments about the velcro being noisy when opened, which it is, but this noise can be reduced/controlled by slowly sliding your finger between the velcro, rather than ripping it open.
The interior of the pouch is lined with a padded, smooth, soft nylon material, which helps make the pellets easier to remove by them sliding over it.
The concertina/bellows sides to the pouch have internal flaps, which stop the pellets from spilling out when the pouch is open, when bending over, climbing gates etc. I have not had a single spill yet, so the system must work.
On the negative side, the pellets are VERY fiddly to remove when there is only a few left, as the get stuck in the corners, under the side flaps I mentioned which is very annoying.
If the pouch was a half moon shape, the pellets would automatically roll into the centre of the pouch, as well of course not having any corners to hide in, in the first place!
All in all, a fairly decent bit of kit, but it does not match up to the camo pouch I bought from JS Ramsbottom about 10 years ago.
That was made from a similar material as the Jack Pyke, but was half moon shaped, and as such, is much more user friendly. Unfortunately that pouch is no longer available.
If Jack Pyke would change the shape of this pouch, they would be on to a sure fire winner.
