@lol
How did it go Laurence.....did you manage to get out on Weds with the Bivvy?
Cor blimey Guv......I've only just got back home
Well eventually, a walk in wild/stealth camp has been done, and it gently rained all day and most of the night.........
A near neighbour wanted to come too, a complete wild/stealth camp novice. I sorted him a tarp of mine and how to make a origami tarp tent. I should have taken and made another
but wanted to use my Snugpak hooped bivvy. A mistake I think in that , but I'll come to that later.
My companion bought only 1/2 a litre of water and no stove, luckily I had 2 1/2 litres, and my trusty swedish army trangia....so compact with 2 kuksas, burner, bottle opener, coffees/teas/chocolate and powdered milk ,and striker. Plus of course 2 bowls.
Food was simply boiling water for Sea to Summit meals (my colleague again hadn't got any, luckily I bought two), they were surprisingly good Breakfast was equally simple, with porridge pot things; again surprisingly good.
Right bivi stuff...........getting in (I use a liner) was surprisingly difficult, even though it had stopped raining, preventing water from the cover getting on the sleeping bag was impossible, or finding dry ways to get boots and trousers off without getting mud or wet everywhere too a lot of patience.
But I did get in and tried to keep all vents open unless it rained, and I was more than comfortable on my basic Decathlon Tek 700 airmat and BA modular (outer) sleeping bag with temps down to 4 deg c
I just didn't dare get out for a wee in the night, because I would never have got back in without making a helluva mess! In the morning the inside of the bivi was sopping and damp patches on the outside of my bag. I stayed dry and warm and slept fairly well. Thank heavens it was a synthetic bag.............
We both enjoyed it, even if it wasn't as successful as my previous canoe camps.........the weather was a lot worse!
, but I'm going to dry the bivi, and put a hose on it and see if its condensation or if its just not up to the job.
It's so good for stealth camping, if it is condensation, I just need to be more selective when it's used. If anyone else has a hooped bivi, the Snugpak in particular, I'd been keen to hear others thoughts..........
Modified LK worked very well carrying 18 kg...still too much but way better than the last time!!
Some piccies for 1 shot: others I can't get to upload on here, anyway they are rubbish and just show the bivi ,and site on leaving
Lots of deer , badgers and owls in the night, and a flock of long tailed tits joining us for breakfast
