Interesting stuff. An old fella at the Bushmoot once did a brief course on fungi used in firelighting, and that was one of them, along with chaga and amadou. I later heard about Otzi having some of it on him. I assumed it was for lighting fires, but from that article it sounds like he may have known about its medicinal properties.

Also if charred in the same process as char cloth makes a fantastic tinder for flint and steel and ferro rod.
